The Control workstation offer you a wide selection of training options ranging from simple open loop control tasks to closed loop PID feedback control of various systems. It provide optimum support for your lessons on open-/closed loop control systems.

All signals (0/2..10 V DC and 24 V DC) are available via 4 mm test sockets on the operator panel of the system. The fill level is recorded using a float switch or a pressure switch. The fill level can be changed by controlling three pumps and/or valves.

The switches and buttons on the control panel can be used in a flexible way to operate the system. Signal lights allow faults and process statuses to be displayed. The workstation can be operated using commercially available controllers, provided they have the appropriate in- and outputs. Alternatively, and perfectly matched with the educational purpose, the workstation can be used together with the software LC2030 process automation training. By using one of the two programs you do receive a complete process control system with visualisation. The LC2030 process automation training software also offers the possibility to work offline, without having the real system connected, by providing an equivalent simulated workstation within the software. The documentation contains several tasks with sample solutions.

With the workstation in this configuration you can run various control engineering experiments.

It consists of the following components:

  • Pressure transducer (M)
    The pressure transducer is always required for establishing fill level control and allows the realization of a 2-point fill level control (discontinuous controller). Continuous fill level control can be established in conjunction with the controllable pump and/or controllable control valve.
    The pressure transducer is permanently installed in the workstation. The fill level signal is available at test sockets as a 0 (2) - 10 V signal.
  • Controllable pump (P3)
    The controllable pump P3 is always required for establishing continuous fill level control, where this is not to be performed solely via the controllable control valve V1. Fill level and flow rate controls can be established with the aid of the controllable pump (and the controllable valve). Where the controllable valve V1 is also present in addition to the controllable pump, flow rate control in the inflow and fill level control via the outflow are then linked together. Flow rate control then acts as a disturbance variable on fill level control. The same applies for flow rate control in the outflow and fill level control via the inflow. In conjunction with the flow rate sensor D3, flow rate control can also be performed using the controllable pump P3.
    Actuation is performed via a frequency converter, the control signal of which (0 - 10 V) is routed to safety test sockets.
  • Controllable valve (V1)
    The controllable valve V1 is always required or added for establishing continuous fill level control, where this is not to be performed solely via the controllable pump P3. Fill level and flow rate controls can be established with the aid of the controllable valve (and the controllable pump). Where the controllable pump P3 is also present in addition to the controllable valve V1, flow rate control in the inflow and fill level control via the outflow are then linked together. Flow rate control then acts as a disturbance variable on fill level control. The same applies for flow rate control in the outflow and fill level control via the inflow. In conjunction with the flow rate sensor D1, flow rate control can also be performed using the controllable valve V1.

The flow rate sensor is permanently installed in the workstation. The analogue output signal of the sensor (0 - 10 V) is routed to safety test sockets.
  • Flow rate sensor (for controllable pump) (D3)
    The flow rate sensor D3 is always required for establishing continuous flow rate control in conjunction with the controllable pump P3. Fill level and flow rate controls can be established with the aid of the controllable pump (and the controllable valve). Where the controllable pump P3 is also present in addition to the controllable valve V1, flow rate control in the inflow and fill level control via the outflow are then linked together. Flow rate control then acts as a disturbance variable on fill level control. The same applies for flow rate control in the outflow and fill level control via the inflow.
    The flow rate sensor D3 is permanently installed in the workstation. The analogue output signal of the sensor (0 - 10 V) is routed to safety test sockets.
  • Heating (H)
    The heating system is always required for establishing continuous temperature control with workstation type PAB.
    In addition to the heating element for heating the water, there is also included a temperature sensor and circulation pump for mixing the water more evenly. The circulation pump is permanently installed in the workstation. The heating element and temperature sensor are fitted into the container from above and can also be removed, if required.
    The temperature sensor measurement signal is converted into a standard 0 - 10 V signal via a measuring transducer. The heating element is switched on and off by a 24 V DC signal. Both signals are routed to safety test sockets.
  • Pressure control with controllable pump (DR)
    The pressure control consists of a sensor, a hand valve and a pressure gauge for measuring and controlling the pressure in the drain (with controllable pump)
  • Cooler (K)
    The cooler consists of a water/air cooler and two fans, and it makes it possible to accelerate water cooling, when using the workstation for temperature control.
    The fans are activated via a 24 V DC signal.
    The cooler is placed separately next to the workstation and connected using the hoses supplied.
